Apraxia of speech therapy

Speech & language therapy

Retraining the brain's planning of speech movements, when the muscles themselves work fine.

What it is

Apraxia of speech is a planning problem: the message and muscles are intact, but organising the movements for speech is hard.

Approaches

Practice is slow, deliberate, and repetitive.

  • Repeated, structured sound and word practice
  • Rhythm and melody to support planning
  • Watching a mouth or mirror for feedback
