Tracking progress without frustration
Recovery is uneven. Ways to record progress that keep you encouraged rather than discouraged.
Progress in rehab is rarely a straight line. How you track it can be the difference between feeling encouraged and feeling stuck.
Measure the right things
- Track effort and consistency, not just outcomes.
- Notice real-life wins (a task done more easily).
- Zoom out - compare over weeks, not days.
Keep it simple
- A short daily tick or note is enough.
- Use a checklist you enjoy filling in.
- Don’t let tracking become a chore.
Expect plateaus
- Progress often comes in steps, not a smooth line.
- Plateaus are normal, not failure.
- Consistency during flat periods pays off later.
Be kind to yourself
- Celebrate showing up.
- Compare yourself to last month, not others.
- Rest is part of progress too.
