Tracking progress without frustration

Recovery is uneven. Ways to record progress that keep you encouraged rather than discouraged.

Progress in rehab is rarely a straight line. How you track it can be the difference between feeling encouraged and feeling stuck.

Measure the right things

  • Track effort and consistency, not just outcomes.
  • Notice real-life wins (a task done more easily).
  • Zoom out - compare over weeks, not days.

Keep it simple

  • A short daily tick or note is enough.
  • Use a checklist you enjoy filling in.
  • Don’t let tracking become a chore.

Expect plateaus

  • Progress often comes in steps, not a smooth line.
  • Plateaus are normal, not failure.
  • Consistency during flat periods pays off later.

Be kind to yourself

  • Celebrate showing up.
  • Compare yourself to last month, not others.
  • Rest is part of progress too.

How this site helps

You don’t have to do everything at once. Pick one small idea from above and try it this week.

  • Turn a goal into a daily habit with Practice.
  • See the evidence behind these ideas in Research.
  • Practise the underlying skill with a calm game.

Remember: this is general education, not medical advice. Your clinician knows your situation best.
