Fine-motor skills let children draw, dress, and feed themselves. Everyday play builds the small muscles and coordination they need.
Strengthen little hands
- Play with dough, clay, and putty.
- Squeeze sponges and spray bottles.
- Tear and scrunch paper.
Practise the pincer grip
- Pick up small items (with supervision).
- Thread large beads.
- Use tongs to move objects.
Everyday practice
- Encourage self-dressing with buttons and zips.
- Let them help with simple cooking.
- Offer chunky crayons for scribbling.
Keep it positive
- Follow their interests.
- Keep tasks short and achievable.
- Praise effort and persistence.
